The Ministry of Transport is looking for an Adviser with strong administrative and financial analysis skills to join our Governance and Commercial team.  You may be working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant with a couple of years’ practical experience or you might be looking to work in the transport sector which is interesting, complex, and changing at pace!

The role of the Adviser, Governance and Commercial is to support delivery of the Ministry's governance and accountability requirements. You will support managers with reporting, financial analysis, and assessment, and will provide financial and commercial advice enabling the team to support the successful delivery of Ministry strategy.

To be successful in this role you will must be able to demonstrate ability to:

  • competently review, analyse, and evaluate financial data, and clearly communicate and present key information to a range of stakeholders

  • engage with and influence senior leaders through building trust and credibility, and maintaining collaborative relationships

  • proactively identify and respond to team member and business needs

  • multi-task and administer documentation e.g. appraisals, procurement documentation, and reports.

You will have a tertiary qualification preferably in accounting, finance, or economics or comparable experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, an eye for detail, and confidence to ask for clarity of understanding and to follow through on tasks.

This is a challenging and busy role so it’s essential that you are organised and able to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team. An appreciation of how the State sector operates would be useful, and an understanding of economic principles and how Crown entities are governed is desirable.
