Manager – Covid-19 Readiness and Response
We have a new Fixed Term Manager position, working closely with the wider government and transport sectors, responding to the ever-changing needs of Covid-19. The role will involve an initial 18-month term working within our Covid-19 directorate, providing the opportunity to subsequently rotate into a different role and team.
About the Covid-19 Directorate
The Covid-19 directorate is accountable for the Ministry’s Covid-19 readiness, response, policy and delivery. It is responsible for dealing with transport related Covid-19 related challenges to assist in the early identification of, and response to, emerging issues or concerns. It oversees Covid-19 activity through two teams: Covid-19 Readiness and Response and Covid-19 Policy & Delivery.
The Covid-19 Readiness and Response team is responsible for drawing on our CIMS trained response resource from across the business to lead the general operation of the Covid-19 Readiness and Response.
Working flexibly, and being prepared to go the extra mile, to manage the demands and support of the team through the challenges that a variable Covid-19 workload can bring.
About the role
The manager’s role will be to lead and motivate a small team which prepares for and coordinates the transport sector’s COVID-19 Readiness and Response. Working alongside your team to provide high quality impartial Covid-19 advice and coordination, ensuring effective management of direct reports, you will support the overall capability of the Covid-19 Readiness and Response team. You will effectively lead your direct reports and others performing COVID-19 response roles, developing, coaching and providing ongoing regular feedback to the team.
You will manage the delivery of advice and tasks with senior managers, ministers and stakeholders, working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies. You will represent the Ministry across the government sector, and with the broader transport sector, providing leadership and helping to deliver on the team’s key objectives. You will develop and set the strategy for your team to maximise its contribution to government outcomes.
What you’ll bring
You will need an agile and adaptable mindset with the ability to identify and work through challenging issues at speed. You’ll bring proven people management experience and the ability to lead and motivate others in a positive and constructive way. You will be able to work effectively with people from a wide range of different cultures and use sound judgement to communicate and resolve issues effectively.
Along with your demonstrated organisational and planning abilities you will have excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality. You will be skilled at developing, coaching, and motivating other members of your team and coordinating with wider teams at different levels. You will bring the capability to support, engage and motivate a high-performing team to meet the ministry’s goals.
You will be confident in delivering regular reporting around progress and performance on activity. You'll have the ability to influence and negotiate where appropriate to achieve and maximise you team’s capability. Having a strong relationship management and collaboration skill set will be critical to your success. You will need to be organised, methodical, and comfortable dealing with multiple workstreams at the same time.

The salary range for this role is: $159,059 - $210,078.
