Manager Governance & Commercial

We are looking for a savvy governance and monitoring professional with good commercial acumen and stellar relationship management skills. In this exciting opportunity you will also bring excellent financial, business and people skills, an appreciation of how the State Sector operates and knowledge of how Crown entities are governed.

The Ministry of Transport is responsible for advising the Government on the governance and performance of the transport sector Crown entities. These entities, together with the Ministry of Transport, oversee the expenditure of nearly $4 billion per year, and ensure the safety of New Zealand’s airspace, maritime sector, and road and rail networks.

Working closely with a new Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for leading a great team of committed professionals whose focus is to provide proactive and responsive governance, financial and commercial advice on matters affecting the transport sector. As well as running the Crown entity board appointments process and advising the Minister on four transport Crown entities’ performance, the team monitors City Rail Link Limited, the company set up as a joint venture with Auckland Council to deliver this key Auckland public transport project. It also provides commercial expertise (including, an overview of five joint venture airports), and leads the Ministry’s input into Crown entity funding reviews.

To be successful, you will be able to lead a high performing team. You will also be particularly strong in building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders.
