About the opportunity

The Safety team is an experienced and friendly team. You will develop your core policy skills by contributing to a range of policy advice as well as build on your knowledge of public sector skills such as OIA and Ministerial responses.

This position offers you the opportunity to quickly develop legislative experience and apply policy frameworks to tricky issues.

As we are a small Ministry, you will be given exposure right across the organisation and will work on some high priority projects in the Safety team.

You will:

  • Support the development of the road safety policy
  • Support legislative change 
  • Draft responses to ministerial and departmental correspondence, and OIA requests

Based on the work or support that may be required, this position is Wellington based only. 

 

What you’ll bring

We are looking for a policy adviser to join our Safety team, with experience in central government. Although we are open to levels of experience (either Adviser 1 or Adviser 2), you will have experience managing policy projects and drafting ministerial correspondence and briefings.

You will need the following:

  • Experience in policy development in a government organisation
  • Strong written and verbal communication 
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Relationship management skills
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field is essential (eg Economics, Public Policy, Law)
  • Understanding of economic frameworks would be advantageous

 

Salary range

The base salary for this position is $79,078 - $100,420 per annum (+ KiwiSaver). The salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
