Te Manatū Waka, Ministry of Transport is the Government’s lead adviser on transport policy. We are a small but agile Ministry – which is perfect if you are after a chance to shine! 

We are looking for a curious and engaging Principal Policy Adviser to join our Strategic Policy and Innovation Team in Wellington(Permanent Position). You’ll be joining a fun and enthusiastic team of people who are helping to identify and address future challenges for New Zealand’s transport system.

Being a Principal Adviser

As a Principal Adviser you will have strong analytical and critical thinking skills along with strong stakeholder engagement. You will have experience with systems-thinking or strategic policy, and will need to take good initiative and be able to organise and shape a work programme as well as lead a small project team of people to deliver results

Subject matter knowledge isn’t essential, and you don’t need to be a technology whizz to excel in this role.  But an understanding of the transport sector and experience in in strategic policy would be a definite advantage. You will have experience engaging with and influencing senior officials,Ministers and the private sector.

The salary step range is $118,256 - $157,674. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.
