We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Advisor to provide leadership for the New Zealand Search and Rescue Council (NZSAR). This is a new leadership role with a focus on NZSAR’s work programme and assurance to deliver the NZSAR goals and mitigate risk, the Principal Advisor position has plenty of variety and responsibilities to build capability and capacity within the team. About New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR)
The NZSAR Secretariat supports the NZSAR Council to ensure New Zealand has effective Search and Rescue services for people in distress throughout New Zealand’s Search and Rescue Region in order to save lives.
The NZSAR Council provides high level strategic governance and leadership to all search and rescue agencies in New Zealand. Its functions are to:
1.Provide strong strategic co-ordination for all search and rescue in New Zealand.
2.Provide strategic policy advice to government.
3.Be responsible for developing and maintaining a New Zealand search and rescue plan.
4.Be responsible for establishing a New Zealand search and rescue vision, mission and goals.
The NZSAR Secretariat is hosted by the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
As part of a small team, and working collaboratively with a dispersed but highly motivated sector, you will have a range of responsibilities to manage the Secretariat functions for the NZSAR Council and several committees. You will be comfortable managing multiple workstreams, and a busy work programme, so prioritising your time will be essential.
You will be responsible for deputising for the Secretariat Manager and will work with all NZSAR staff to co-ordinate and deliver NZSAR’s work programme and workstreams on time and within budget.
You will be expected to develop and implement an assurance framework for the SAR sector, and lead NZSAR’s volunteerism response to the Volunteering New Zealand study.
Salary Band (successful candidates will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience): $111,686 - $157,674
You will be comfortable using your exceptional engagement skills to develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with SAR sector partners and agencies.
You will have demonstrated project and contract management skills and will assist to manage the Secretariat finance performance information for a number of audiences.
Ideally, you will be able to juggle a variety of tasks efficiently, and be comfortable presenting to an audience. You will be tertiary qualified in commerce, policy, assurance or management or have significant commensurate experience. Your experience in Government and the not-for-profit/volunteer sector will be invaluable.
