Principal Policy Adviser – Rail and Freight

The Ministry of Transport is the government’s chief policy adviser on transport. We are a small, collegial agency, working in a fast-paced environment. The Ministry has an important strategic leadership role. Our job is to ensure that our transport system supports a broad range of social economic, and environmental outcomes, and is positively shaping the cities and places we inhabit.
We are looking for a principal adviser to join our Rail and Freight team. You will help us lead our ambitious work programme including advising Ministers in areas such as the Future of Rail, coastal shipping, and significant business case work in the rail and freight area.
As a Principal Adviser at the Ministry, you will be responsible for providing thought leadership, overseeing the delivery of key work, supporting the overall capability of the team, and representing the Ministry across the transport and government sectors. You’ll also work collaboratively as part of our Principal Adviser cohort to accomplish shared goals.
We’re looking for an experienced policy practitioner with an aptitude for crafting policy advice demonstrated strategic thinking, and extensive experience working collaboratively with stakeholders and advising Ministers. You’ll bring your great attitude, initiative and your genuine desire to continuously develop yourself and others. You will be comfortable working with ambiguity and have a proven track record delivering high quality products with and through others at pace.

The salary range for this role is $106,836 to $150,828
