Are you curious about how transport can shape the future of New Zealand?
Are you looking for a part-time role that will help you gain research and evaluation experience and build a network across the public sector?
Do you have great organisational skills and can help us make sense of a variety of data relating to different aspects of the transport system?
As the government’s system lead on transport, the Ministry has an important role to ensure transport improves wellbeing and liveability for New Zealanders. Key to this is having robust evidence about how the transport system is meeting its desired outcomes.
We are looking for a casual Research Assistant to help our evaluation team develop a new set of reports to be released at the end of the year. These reports will evaluate how the transport system is performing (including land transport, active travel, aviation, and maritime) and will be used by councils, Crown agencies, and the Ministry to inform future policy decisions.
The role will include:
Stakeholder engagement including liaising with both internal and external stakeholders
Compiling data tables and checking data for consistency
Basic data cleaning and analysis using Excel
Assisting with project management and development of reporting templates
The ideal candidate will have:
Basic data manipulation and analytical skills including experience with Excel
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail, strong record keeping and organisational skills
The role is for approximately 15 hours per week from September to December 2019. Hours are negotiable and there is the possibility the role could be extended into 2020. Pay is $22-25/hour depending on experience. The role is based at the Ministry’s Wellington office.
The Ministry of Transport is a small, friendly agency, with a wide influence, where you’ll be close to the action, and have plenty of opportunity to contribute and develop. This role would be ideal for a post-graduate student wanting to gain research and evaluation experience in the public sector.
