About the opportunity | Ngā whakamārama mō te tūnga

You will work in the Maritime Security Oversight Committee Secretariat; a small cross-sector team that provides governance support to the Maritime Security Oversight Committee (MSOC), implements the Cabinet mandated Maritime Security Strategy Te Kaitiakitanga O Tangaroa with its associated programme of work, and leads maritime security policy development for New Zealand. The Secretariat is hosted by the Ministry of Transport (MoT), a small, thriving Ministry at the heart of decision making. The Secretariat is focused on the effective delivery of maritime security for 1/12th of the world’s surface area. 

You will lead performance measurement and risk management for the maritime security sector. The position will work collaboratively across the sector, including National Maritime Coordination Centre and maritime security agencies, in the development of all-of-government plans that aim to treat New Zealand’s maritime security risks.

As a member of the Secretariat, you’ll have the chance to work at the cutting edge of New Zealand’s maritime security governance, provide advice to Ministers and work with a vast range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the monitoring and measurement framework that supports maritime security sector assurance and integrating assurance practice into the implementation of the Strategy
  • Leading the maritime security risks framework in support of the sector-wide management of New Zealand’s maritime security risks and integrating risk practice into the implementation of the Strategy
  • Providing high quality advice and governance support to the Joint Maritime Advisory Group and MSOC as their board secretary
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the maritime security sector and the national security system.
  • Supporting the development of multi-agency plans for the implementation of the Strategy’s four pillars
  • Contributing to multiple pieces of work concurrently, actively, and independently planning and managing workload
  • Providing guidance, on-the-job training and coaching to more junior team members

Based on the work or support that may be required, this position is Wellington based only. 

What you’ll bring | Te wāhi ki a koe

You will have significant experience in assurance, risk, problem-solving complex issues, assessing options and advising on a direction. You’ll be someone who can take all the information on an issue, analyse its facets, communicate effectively, and support a decision on a direction.

As a Senior Adviser, you will bring:

  • Qualification in assurance or related discipline
  • An understanding of the National Security System and maritime security sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships, engage with, and influence senior leaders.

  • Knowledge of the sector and/or existing relationships with stakeholders is desirable.

 

Salary range | Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau

The base salary range budget for this position is $108,126 – $143,618 (midpoint $119,681) per annum (+ KiwiSaver). The salary offered will reflect skills and experience.
