Opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding environment

The Ministry of Transport advises the Government on board appointments and the performance of the transport sector Crown Agencies.  We oversee the expenditure of nearly $4 billion per year, and ensure the safety of New Zealand’s airspace, maritime sector, and our road and rail networks.

The Governance & Commercial team’s core role is to provide stewardship advice to responsible Ministers to support their decision making in relation to Crown entities and other governance structures within the transport sector. The team oversees the governance and performance of the four transport Crown entities, and provides stewardship advice to guide key stakeholders about their respective roles in the transport sector.

The team provides proactive and responsive governance, financial and commercial advice and assessment on matters affecting the transport sector and transport sector Crown entities.

We also provide commercial expertise to the Ministry – this includes leading funding reviews and monitoring City Rail Link, the Crown’s MetService purchase contract and the five Crown Joint Venture airports.

We are looking for a Senior Adviser to support the delivery of the Ministry's governance and accountability responsibilities. We’re interested in hearing from candidates who have experience in Crown board appointments, programme management, policy and commercial experience in monitoring risk and the effectiveness of organisations, along with the ability to see the big picture.  You will partner with Ministry leaders and staff to manage governance and accountability requirements of monitoring Crown entity performance.

Success in this role is reliant on your ability to build strong relationships, interpret a wide range of information and engage with and influence senior leaders.

This is a challenging role in a fast paced environment and it is essential that you be highly organised and be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a small and busy team.

The salary band for this role is $88,386 to $124,781.

This role offers variety, development and the opportunity to grow your skill set, and hone and demonstrate your judgment and leadership skills.
