About the role

The Research, Economics & Evaluation Team leads and undertakes economic analysis, appraisal, and evaluation of complex and sensitive issues to bring evidence, data, and economics into transport intervention decisions.

We are looking for a Senior Economist with a strong economic expertise to join us in a full-time role in Wellington.

As a Senior Economist you will work within a team of other innovative and passionate economists and analysts, with policy teams, the Chief Economist and with external agencies including government agencies, international forums. You will provide expert economic advice and analysis, to support and contribute to the development of sound transport policy.

The work the team covers is wide ranging, some current examples include:

  • Assisting implementation, development and assessment of transport emissions reduction action plans and providing advice on their economic and environmental impacts
  • Assisting development and assessment of strategies or initiatives as part of the Road To Zero Strategy and Supply Chain Strategy
  • Developing and/ or implementing new appraisal and assessment methodologies to, ensure better consideration of social and equity related issues relating to transport interventions
  • Advising on appraisal and assessment of transport projects or initiatives, business cases, costs and benefits and their economic impacts
  • Carrying out competition and market analyses of the transport related industries


About you

The ideal candidate will have expertise in applying economic analysis and theory to real world problems as well as communicating economic research and analysis to non-technical teams and audiences. You will have a strong track record of experience in providing policy advice and/or economic analysis in a data driven environment with a strong customer focus. Transport experience would definitely be an advantage.

The salary band for this role is $99,483-$132,643 per annum, depending on experience.
